Whether you want to go white, black… or somewhere in between

Check our 6 tips and tricks below to finding the right grout shade and colour for you!

1. As you choose a grout color, think first about where the tile will be. Light colored grout can be impractical for areas that get dirty quickly, such as entryways. For high-traffic areas, choose a color that won’t need to be scrubbed daily to maintain its look, this could be anywhere from a mid to darker grey – depending on the tile colour.

2. Get advice on the best grout product for your area. There are a few different types of grout product you can get. Standard, acrylic-based and epoxy, each have a slightly different function.
Your tiler might recommend one for you, but if you’re not sure, feel free to ask one of our friendly team in-store for advice. They’ll help you decide based on area, function and colour.

Contrast vs. blending

3. Blending: By matching the grout and tile color, the grout lines become less pronounced and the tile itself is accentuated. You can achieve this by choosing a grout colour which closely matches in with the main colour of the tile.

4. Contrast: By contrasting the tile and grout colors, you draw attention to the pattern and layout of the tile overall. This may be the best choice with detailed geometric or decorative patterns. For example, this can be achieved by using white grout with a black tile or vice versa.

5. Wait until the tiles are in: Once the tiles have been laid, there will be shadowing where they have been spaced for the grout. This will give you an idea of what the tiles would look like with a mid-coloured grout, from there you can decide whether you would like to go for a lighter or darker look.
